At the various stations of the Kneipp course, information boards explain the holistic Kneipp method in an easy and playful way and encourage you to actively participate. You can set off on a health-promoting and varied Kneipp hike through Algund at any time and learn more about the proven principles of Sebastian Kneipp. The Kneipp hikes are also a good opportunity to experience the special features of the seven districts of Algund.

Minigolf Algund
A true paradise for the whole family! The minigolf course of Algund is idyllically situated on the Vinschgau cycle path and just a stone’s throw from the center. In the middle of a green area, two courses with 18 holes each await you: miniature golf and felt golf. In the cozy kiosk you can take a break with delicious snacks and refreshing drinks. Immerse yourself in a world of fun and happiness. There is also a large adventure playground nearby!

Restaurant Leiter am Waal
On the Algunder Waalweg trail, with a beautiful view over Merano and its surroundings, the Bauer family creates South Tyrolean classics in a modern ambience and offers an impressive selection of fine wines.
Our insider tip: Veal “Wienerschnitzel“ with roast potatoes and cranberry jam, accompanied by a delicious Vernatsch from the Dona winery.
Juval Castle
Juval Castle is the home of extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner and accommodates one of the six fascinating Messner Mountain Museums, each dedicated to a different theme. It celebrates the “myth of mountain”, which is also the title of the permanent exhibition. On the castle hill you can find a small mountain zoo, the Schlosswirt tavern with its home-grown produce and the Unterortl winery with excellent wines from the Vinschgau valley.
Taking the chairlift to Vellau
A magical experience awaits you on the chairlift ride from Plars to Vellau. Glide leisurely through the idyllic vineyards and forests of Algund to the quaint village of Vellau. Vellau is the ideal starting point for great hikes as well as the entry point to the Texel Group and the Merano High Mountain Trail. The valley station of the chairlift is just a 10-minute walk from the Thalguter.
Weekly Market in Merano
Every week, every Friday to be precise, traders from all over northern Italy come together near the train station of Merano to offer their visitors a varied shopping experience. You can choose from a wide range of products. On Praderplatz square, fresh foods such as fruit and vegetables, bread and fish are on offer. There are also plenty of regional specialties such as “speck” and cheese, as well as different leather goods.
“Pur Südtirol“ – 100% South Tyrol
This well-assorted gourmet market with South Tyrolean products is almost a must for every lover of our region. Stroll through the rows where you will only find products from local producers. From wines to jams, chocolate and cheese: you will definitely find your favorite souvenir here. Our tip: treat yourself to a hearty “Speck” (smoked ham) tasting with wine - an authentic South Tyrolean “Marende” (afternoon snack).
Knottenkino
Knottenkino (“cinema on the rocks”) is a place where you can sit down and simply enjoy the unique panorama. The view stretches across the picturesque Etsch valley and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain peaks. The trail initially starts on an asphalted access road before branching off onto a somewhat steeper but easily accessible forest path. It will lead you uphill to the open-air cinema. The total time for the hike to Knottenkino and back is around 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Garber
Already from the outside, this tobacco shop stands out with its impressive entrance door and the oversized copper pipes above it. The pipes are responsible for the ventilation of the huge humidor, which can be found behind the actual sales room and houses thousands of cigars from all over the world. This is the place where celebrities such as Pavarotti and many others have enjoyed rum and cigars in the company of Otto Garber (†2013).
